BUTTE - The pandemic has postponed another Christmas tradition in Butte.

The Mining City's annual ice sculpting contest that is usually held in early December has been canceled due to the coronavirus.

The event involves about 40 artists creating sculptures out of large blocks of ice in Uptown Butte.

“People loved it, the people who participated in it, the sculptors, but also the public, they loved going and seeing what comes out of these blocks of ice, 340 pound-square blocks on a stand and by the end of the day they're just amazing creations, works of art,” said event organizer George Everett.

Organizers will try to reschedule the event for some time in January or February depending on the state of the virus in the community.
