BUTTE — Butte police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of tools and equipment from this construction site of Butte’s new veterans home.

“A lot of people drive that area back and forth so were looking for someone who may have seen something suspicious inside the construction site at night,” said Butte Undersheriff George Skuletich.

The theft occurred sometime last weekend to several trailers on the site of the Southwest Montana Veterans Home off of Blacktail Loop.

“There’s all kinds of tools from saws to plumbing tools, computers. We’re checking all the pawnshops, we’re checking all that stuff, we’re checking pawnshops nationwide and statewide, so we’re doing all that type of investigation on it,” said Skuletich.

Since so many items were taken from this construction area, police are hoping that if anyone in public saw any extra traffic over the weekend that might be helpful to their investigation.

“They’d of had to have some sort of truck or a couple of different vehicles to get the equipment out of there that they got, maybe even another small trailer or something like that, but it was a pretty good haul and I think they were in there a while to do it, so hopefully somebody may have seen something,” said Skuletich.

Police said a theft also occurred at another construction trailer off Four Mile Road that same weekend.

Anyone with information should call police at 497-1120.
