Crews continue to fight the State Creek Fire, located 16 miles northeast of Whitehall near the Whitetail Reservoir.
The lightning-caused fire was first reported on Aug. 24, 2020 and is zero percent contained.

According to fire officials, 157 people are reportedly battling the fire, including 2 medium helicopters, 1 light helicopter, and 1 water tender.

The fire is located on the Butte Ranger District in an area difficult for firefighters to access due to rough terrain, numerous snags, and a significant amount of dead and down trees.

Crews will continue to improve fire breaks today, but burnout operations could occur throughout the weekend, weather permitting. Burnouts are used to consume unburned fuels between the fire perimeter and prepared fire breaks. Nearby communities will see a large increase in fire activity and smoke when the burnout operations are underway.
