HELENA, Mont. – The City of Helena Open Land Division will be conducting prescribed burning activities within Mt. Ascension and Mt. Helena Natural Parks between November 1, 2026, and April 30, 2027 (weather dependent).

The prescribed burning activities will involve the ignition of brush piles located within forest fuel treatment units that total approximately 550 acres collectively. Hand-piled forest fuels occurring within the various treatment units were accumulated during the completion of forest sanitation/thinning treatment entries which took place from 2020 – 2026. The ignited piles will be monitored to ensure safety and air quality compliance.

Caution signs will be placed at various trailheads and along impacted trails on the day that active burning operations will be conducted within Helena’s open lands system.
