BUTTE – The Butte Exchange Club is hosting an event Friday that will honor veterans and first responders.

The Field of Honor event features 1,000 U.S. flags that people can dedicate to a loved one who has served in the military of protective services. the flags are on display in the field next the Belmont mine yard on east Mercury Street and will remain there until Sunday afternoon.

“We meet families that go out there and maybe see their son or loved one who is tagged in the field or circle of honor. We had one family that lost their son in the war and it just meant so much to watch them go there and got to take their flag home with them,” said organizer Cindi Farrar.

Opening ceremonies from the Field of Honor will be Friday at noon.
