BUTTE – Butte’s Council of Commissioners will consider a recommendation that will give its police force a higher pay raise.
The council received a recommendation this week to give the members of Butte’s Police Protective Service union a 2 percent pay raise that includes a matrix that will substantially increase pay of longer-serving officers that will be closer to the level of pay of other law enforcement agencies around the state.
“We are a city/county, so we have to do both city/county duties whereas all these other cities have a police agency and a sheriff’s office and those duties are split. So that’s why we feel this median raise is fair compensation for what we do on a daily basis,” said Officer Ryan Hardy, who is President of the police union.
The council is expected to vote on the pay raise at its meeting on Dec. 5.
