Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has confirmed another hunter survived a grizzly bear attack on Tuesday in the Gravelly Mountains, following two separate attacks in a nearby area last week.

FWP said in a press release the hunter, a man from Ohio, survived the most recent attack that occurred between the Coal Creek Drainage and the Eureka Basin Road. That location is about 8 miles south of last week’s attacks, FWP said.

FWP wardens, along with Madison County sheriff’s deputies, interviewed the man who said he was walking through blown-down timber when the bear attacked from very close range.

The man told officials he fired multiple shots at the bear until it left, then met up with other members of his hunting party and sought medical treatment. He was treated at the Ruby Valley Medical Center in Sheridan.

FWP says details of the incident remain unclear at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Wardens ask that people stay out of the Coal Creek and Twin Springs area while they investigate.

This is a developing story. We will report new information as we get it.
