UPDATE - Investigations are ongoing after the body of an adult male was recovered from a pile of trash at the Billings city landfill in a garbage truck by sanitation crews around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Detectives with the Billings Police Department were on scene for approximately five hours. Police tape surrounded the back end of the truck while detectives worked.

Billings Public Works, the city department that operates the truck, declined to comment on the death. But public works staff said day-to-day operations at the landfill were not effected by the investigation.

The truck wrapped in police tape was equipped with two forks on its front for picking up larger dumpsters.

The truck's daily route is not known at this time.

This isn't the first time a death has been associated with a Billings city garbage truck.

In 2009, 22-year-old Adam Davis of Maine was thrown in a garbage truck's compactor while sleeping in a dumpster behind the Grand Ave. McDonalds restaurant.

Davis died after sustaining injuries in the truck's compactor.

BILLINGS - The Billings Police Department is investigating a body found Tuesday morning in a city sanitation truck at the landfill.

The body was found in the load area of the truck, which was tapped off at the scene.

The call came in around 9 a.m.
