BUTTE - Firefighters in Butte contained a fire that heavily damaged a home on Amherst Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Flames and heavy smoke were reported about 3:30 p.m. coming from the home at Amherst and Porter.
Firefighters soon knocked down the initial fire, but had to break into the eaves to get to the fire burning in the ceiling.
The occupant was able to safely escape the house.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
