BUTTE - The U.S. Post Office is going to need a big mailbag to deliver these letters – 19,500 to be exact.

That’s the number of ballots Butte’s Clerk and Recorder’s Office mailed of Friday to registered voters in the county. Because of the coronavirus outbreak, the county will conduct this year’s primary election by mail-in ballot only.

Staff with the Clerk and Recorders office packed the thousands of ballots into vehicles and, with the aid of a police escort delivered them to the post office on Dewey Boulevard. Clerk and Record Sally Hollis said preparing the more than 19,000 ballots went better than expected.

“I expected to do the works in four weeks, and we were done in two and a half weeks. I have an awesome staff, they’re very professional they did a great job for me,” said Hollis.

Registered voters should be receiving letters very soon for the primary election. The ballot should be filed out and mailed out before the election on June 2nd.

“It’s three ballots, you get the Green Party, Republican and Democrat. Only vote one party, put it in the secrecy envelop, and again, make sure you sign it and put it in the mail,” said Hollis.

So the U.S. Post Office is processing these ballots right now, so if you don’t get one by Wednesday, call Clerk and Recorders Office.

“Every election to me is extremely important, but this is, we’ve got a presidential, we’ve got a state, you have county. This election is very important,” said Hollis.
