BUTTE — Reopening salons and barber shops in Butte will do more than just get the economy started.

“What are jobs is meant is to just make people feel better, so we call it 'hairapy' here and, I mean, people need a little 'hairapy' right now,” said Leigh-Ann Whitworth of Essentials Salon in Butte.

Salons, barbers and tattoo parlors will be allowed to open next week in Butte after following several safety protocols. Salon owners are very close to their clients, and not just in physical manner.

“We watch them have children, get married, have grandchildren even, watch them graduate from high school. It’s hard, it’s hard to be away from them,” said Whitworth.

“We are practicing great protocol in handling people who come into this shop, both for our safety because we want to be well and for the safety of the people who come in here,” said Whitworth.

These businesses will have to check in with the Butte Health Department to make sure they are complying with safety procedures before opening.
