BUTTE — One day before Christmas and the stores and butcher shops in Butte were busy with last-minute shoppers. Something small business owners appreciate.
“A lot of people have been making the effort to shop local, which has helped all of us small businesses a ton,” said Mirror Mirror Boutique owner Kayla Lambrecht.
The pandemic cut into Butte’s summertime tourist season. However, shop workers have been reporting a steady holiday season.
“I’m mean, it’s good for our local businesses, I enjoy in-shopping, all the local stuff you can’t get anywhere else,” said the clerk at Butte Stuff Kylie Krushensky.
The butchers at Excelsior Meats have been busy handling last-minute orders for Christmas dinner.
“Hectic, a lot of hours, we’ve been putting a lot of hours in, my crew has been working around the clock we’ve been working pretty much,” said the head supervisor Eddie Brook.
Small business owners are encouraged by the added business.
“When I was little I remember Uptown being the shopping district you just walked around and shopped and everything, so it’s wonderful because Uptown Butte’s becoming more alive, I think becoming more of that scene again,” said Lambrecht.
Retailers in Butte certainly needed a good Christmas after this very difficult year, but most people are hopeful things will turnaround in the new year.
“I’m hopeful for 2021, so I’m looking forward to a better summer than the summer we had this year,” said shopper Maria Pochervina.
