BUTTE - Montana tech in Butte celebrated Indigenous Peoples' Day Monday with events that highlighted Native American culture in Montana.

Students and staff were invited to watch a documentary film on the local tribes that lived in the Montana region.

Native American inspired food was served to students and other events were held to bring awareness of the cultural impact of indigenous people.

“The really exciting thing is we have 83 Native American students at Montana Tech which is about 2.8 percent of our student enrollment and we want to see every one of those students succeed and by celebrating their culture is a way to support them,” said Amy Verlanic, director of the Institute for Educational Opportunities.

The event also featured talks with three Native American alumni from Montana Tech.
