Emergency crews were able to rescue a woman from a Missoula home that caught fire on Tuesday.

The Missoula Rural Fire District (MRFD) responded to reports of a structure fire with a victim inside in the 4600 block of Wornath Road in Missoula shortly after 11:30 a.m.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find flames coming out of the single-story home with a basement. One person was outside, but he told firefighters that a victim was still inside.

Crews attacked the fire while searching for the victim who was found on the floor in the kitchen near the back door. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

MRFD Battalion Chief Blaine Cowan says the fire, which had spread to multiple rooms and the attic, was knocked down in 40 minutes.

Two civilian injuries were reported as a result of the fire and two dogs died from smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
