Numerous law enforcement agencies were involved in a high-speed chase on Thursday that started in downtown Missoula and ended when the suspect crashed his vehicle in Idaho.

Missoula County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brenda Bassett said the suspect is from Washington and was wanted for a probation violation in that state. His name has not yet been released.

The suspect was pulled over in a traffic stop at the intersection of Front Street and Higgins Avenue in downtown Missoula around 3:30 p.m.

Missoula city and county officials ended the chase after the suspect crossed into Idaho.

Idaho State Police continued the chase on Highway 12.

Idaho County authorities said the suspect crashed his vehicle after he ran over a spike strip placed by police at mile marker 120, which is just over 50 miles west of Lolo Pass.

A dispatcher said Idaho County officials would release more information on the incident at a later time.
