A well-traveled bridge leading to Glacier National Park was dedicated Monday in honor of hundreds of fallen Flathead County soldiers.

Many gathered at the South Fork Bridge on US Highway 2 in Hungry Horse unveiling the new Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Michael Shepard, a Vietnam veteran -- and 40 year resident of Northwest Montana -- read the names of fallen soldiers in dedication.

He said he first reached out to Montana Republican State Senator Dee Brown with the idea to dedicate this bridge to a special group.

Shepard couldn’t be happier with the result, “and what a better way to do it than a brand-new bridge heading up to Glacier Park.”

More than 200 names of fallen veterans are featured on the memorial.

Senator Brown said around three million travelers are expected to cross the bridge this coming year.
