An organization in the Bitterroot is continuing its mission to keep kids warm this year.

The Stock Farm Greater Ravalli Foundation which has been providing warm winter clothes – including hats, gloves snow pants and jackets -- to school-aged kids since 2002, and says it knows the need is especially prevalent this year.

The foundation works with school counselors to help identify families that might be in need. More than 1,000 items were given to 350 families last year in Ravalli County.

Executive director Deb Gabelhausen says families need help with winter weather moving in early as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact families.

"Families are really struggling. Just providing those basic necessities, keeping those kids warm, and allowing them to focus on the things that are important family, learning, and that type of thing, is critical to us,” Gabelhausen explained.

The foundation says they also provided over $25,000 in grocery cards to families earlier in the pandemic. Click here for more information about the program.
