Following an extensive interview process -- and hours of debate -- the Florence Carlton School District will welcome Brian Rayburn as their new superintendent.

The school board announced their decision at a public meeting Monday afternoon.

School board members said they had a difficult decision with four experienced candidates in the mix, but they're thrilled to move forward with Rayburn.

The new superintendent brings 22 years of experience to the job.

Originally from Vermont, he’s worked in a handful of school districts. Currently, you’ll find him in Lima, Montana where he’s been the superintendent for five years.

Rayburn said he’ll make multiple trips to Florence in the coming months to ensure he’s up to speed on the new building project, and to begin integrating himself into the community.

“The thing that I look forward to is building that relationship with the community and bringing excitement to the school district and the things that the students are doing,” Rayburn said.

Rayburn will now enter his contract negotiations with the Florence Carlton School District. His projected start date is July 1st.
