Snowmobiling is very popular in Region 3, and with the recent snows it is also increasingly dangerous.
Robby Pohle is a warden from West Yellowstone and he has had to be a part of several rescue efforts already this season. He says every rider should take these as minimum requirements for safety: An avalanche beacon and know how to use it. Shovel, probes, tools to make fire and water and some extra high-energy food.
Pohle also suggest traveling in groups in case there is a problem. He also notes that sometimes riders themselves become rescuers and should be prepared to help when it’s needed. His best advice is to hope for the best but to prepare for the worst.
