BOZEMAN – A cool and unsettled weather pattern hit SW Montana today with scattered snow showers this morning and slushy accumulations for several area mountain passes. As the atmosphere warms slightly Monday afternoon and early evening scattered showers will redevelop with a few weak thunderstorms through midnight.

A broad trough of Low-pressure is building just off the Oregon coast today and forecast models are telling us this Low will stall over the Pacific NW for several days. That means a SW flow aloft will develop across western Montana that will help temperatures come up slightly but there will be several waves of moisture lifting into our region this week.

Most of SW Montana is below normal on May precipitation and this weeks cool and wet weather pattern should help bring some much needed precipitation to the state. Forecast models show western Montana and central Idaho have the best chance for moderate rainfall and higher mountain snow.

Watch for off and on showers to impact SW Montana through Friday.
