BOZEMAN – A cold front is passing through Montana Tuesday afternoon and will be the trigger for strong to severe thunderstorms to impact the state especially east of the divide.

The Storm Prediction Center outlook for Tuesday afternoon shows lower risk for stronger storms over Butte, but a good chance for a few severe thunderstorms over Bozeman, and numerous severe thunderstorms across central and NE counties.

The greatest concern will be large hail and/or damaging wind gusts. Both could produce property damage. Other impacts will be frequent and deadly lightning and brief heavy rain.

As I am writing this for our web sites there are several strong thunderstorms impacting SW Montana. Forecast models show most storms should diminish locally after 8 pm.

You can track thunderstorms on the KBZK STORMTracker weather mobile app.
